Terms of Service

Welcome to Rate'em ("we", "us", "our"). By accessing or using rate-em.vercel.app (the "Platform"), you agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms"). Please read them carefully.

1. Who We Are

Rate'em is a community-driven rating and discussion platform where users can create topics, rate items, and leave comments. The Platform is operated as a personal project based in the United Kingdom.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use Rate'em. By using the Platform, you confirm that you meet this requirement. If you are between 13 and 18 years old, you should review these Terms with a parent or guardian.

3. Your Account

  • You may browse Rate'em without an account. Creating topics, rating items, and commenting requires signing in via Google OAuth.
  • You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
  • You may only hold one account. Creating multiple accounts to circumvent restrictions is prohibited.
  • We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

4. User-Generated Content

4.1 Your Content, Your Rights

You retain ownership of any content you submit to Rate'em, including topics, items, ratings, comments, and images ("User Content").

4.2 Licence You Grant Us

By submitting User Content, you grant Rate'em a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to display, store, and distribute that content on the Platform for the purpose of operating the service. This licence ends when you delete your content or account.

4.3 Content Standards

You agree that your User Content will not:

  • Target, harass, or humiliate real, private individuals
  • Contain hate speech, discrimination, or content that degrades people based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or other protected characteristics
  • Be sexually explicit or involve minors in any inappropriate way
  • Include personal information about others (addresses, phone numbers, email addresses) without their consent
  • Constitute spam, advertising, or contain malicious links
  • Violate any applicable law

4.4 Content Moderation

We use automated moderation tools to review content before it is published. We reserve the right to remove any User Content that violates these Terms, without notice. We are not obligated to monitor all content but may do so at our discretion.

4.5 Reporting

If you encounter content that violates these Terms, please contact us at the email address listed in Section 12.

5. Guest Ratings

You may submit ratings without creating an account. Guest ratings are linked to a session identifier stored locally in your browser. We cannot guarantee the persistence of guest ratings if you clear your browser data.

6. Prohibited Conduct

You agree not to:

  • Attempt to bypass or circumvent our content moderation systems
  • Access Rate'em through automated means (bots, scrapers) without our express permission
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Platform or its underlying systems
  • Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Platform
  • Impersonate another person or entity

7. Intellectual Property

All original content on Rate'em that is not User Content — including the Rate'em name, logo, design, and code — is owned by us and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not copy, reproduce, or distribute it without our permission.

8. Disclaimers

The Platform is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that:

  • The Platform will be uninterrupted or error-free
  • Ratings and reviews on the Platform are accurate or reliable
  • The Platform will be free from harmful components

User Content reflects the opinions of individual users, not Rate'em. We are not responsible for the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any User Content.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Rate'em shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising out of your use of, or inability to use, the Platform. Our total liability to you for any claim shall not exceed £100.

10. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Platform after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

11. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
